Winterfest 2012

It’s that time of year again! Come up to the Hill tomorrow, Saturday, February 4, between 11 and 3, for Winterfest!

It promises to be a great event! Many of the businesses on the Hill have sponsored ice sculptures, and there will also be ice carving demonstrations, a chili cook-off (samples are free), a tent serving chili dogs, s’mores, face painting, cookie decorating, ice sculpture miniature golf, and more! It’s a great event for a family, for anyone new to the area, and for all Pointers — because who doesn’t love a free hot dog??

Our office will be open and is a great place to stop in, warm up, and get a hot chocolate! We’d love it if you came by for a chat!

Detroit evolving into a haven for artists

Image from www.artdetroitnow.com

Thanks to my weekly newsletter from Model D (a great resource for Detroit news and updates,) I learned of this article published in Sunday’s Los Angeles Times: Detroit evolving into a haven for artists

At Higbie Maxon Agney, when we market our wonderful Grosse Pointe community, one of the amenities that we are sure to point out is our proximity to downtown Detroit. This is a great asset for commuters, to be sure, but I think it’s important to remember that it is really an asset to all of us.

Andrew Bender, in that article, mentions some wonderful places to visit and eat in the city; when was the last time that you paid a visit to the wonderful Detroit Institute of Arts or the sculpture garden at the College for Creative Studies? It is definitely worth an extra hour (or two) at the gym to go down to Slow’s for a meal.

I think that for us native Grosse Pointers, it is easy to think of all the amazing places to visit and eat and drink here in the Pointes; contributing to our local business is one of the keys to our community’s success! Just don’t forget that one of the great things about the Pointes is that downtown is just 20 minutes down the road. And the more enthused we are about our proximity to the city, the more enthused others will be about Grosse Pointe–and that’s good news for all of us.
